On September 9, members of Smith Mountain Lake Community Bible Study began a 30 week
study of Genesis which displays God’s holiness and faithfulness, and His patient development of
mankind’s faith in a coming Messiah. The lives of the Patriarchs are traced with the great stories of
Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, and the sojourn of the Hebrew nation in Egypt. You are cordially
invited to join!
Community Bible Study is an interdenominational Bible study for our local community.
We welcome people from all backgrounds and levels of Bible knowledge. Our SML class
has men, women, and children from 14 different area congregations. We meet at Halesford
Baptist Church at the corner of Rt. 122 and Lost Mountain Road on Wednesdays from 9:30
to 11:30 AM. It is very easy to join at any time. Registrations are currently being taken for men,
women and children up through 6th grade.
Smith Mountain Lake CBS classes are attended by people from various
backgrounds who meet at Halesford Baptist Church for Bible study. Classes meet
for two hours, once a week for 30 weeks, beginning in September and ending in
May. Our class schedules seasonal breaks around Christmas and Easter and our snow/inclement
weather policy is dictated by Franklin County Schools closings and delays.
The CBS approach to Bible study allows participants to be exposed to the Word
of God in several ways:
* Studying a Bible passage at home and answering questions
* Sharing in a small Core Group discussion
* Listening to a lecture by a trained Teaching Director
* Reading a prepared Commentary on the lesson
* Seeing the truths of the Bible lived out in the lives of leaders and class
members.
